27:10 - "If my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will take me up."
Psalms 28 - No mention of any women.
Psalms 29 - No mention of any women.
Psalms 30 - No mention of any women.
Psalms 31 - No mention of any women.
Psalms 32 - No mention of any women.
Psalms 33 - No mention of any women.
My Comments
Well, our internet is back up and I figured I'd make up for lost posts by reading a bit more than normal. Didn't seem to do much, though, since the Psalms are immensely boring and have no real substance to them. Kind of like reading lyrics to a bunch of Christian pop songs. All praise praise praise and nothing underneath it. Almost sounds empty after a while.
Friday: More Psalms
That's a lot of chaff for one small kernel. The resounding absence of reference to women made me wonder how often men were mentioned and in what way.
ReplyDeleteMen, of course, are represented in the most glorious way possible. God, the LORD, is always and everywhere male. The verses are rife with the hammering repetition of "he", "him", and "his". After that, the references to males are to Jacob, kings, and warriors - and the author is putatively David. All this is representative of male privilege, which definitely shows that "women's inferior status is in fact supported by the Bible".
Going off on a tangent here. Isn't there a convention to capitalize "He", "Him", and "His" when writing of the LORD? If so, why aren't they capitalized in the NSRV or KJV versions I see online?
I was always taught that when referring to God one should capitalize He and Him. Same as when you refer to God you capitalize it because He's the one true God. So He's special and gets capitals. I generally don't bother because I don't believe in him in the first place and even if it were proven that he was real I feel no need to give him an iota of my respect. So I find it funny that the online sites don't have the caps. Maybe this has something to do with a spell check? Or maybe they are all just outright disrespecting God. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, the thing about women being absent but every other verse mentioning a man in some capacity is basically what has been going on the entire Bible. The number of posts I have that have chapters that don't mention women is up to 81 now. That's a LARGE chunk of the Bible with no mention of one half of the entire human race. But men are mentioned in just about every single line. Hell, even the stories that revolve around women have male characters that take up just as much space in the story as the women do.
Once this project is over, I may actually buy another Bible and go through and underline/highlight every verse in which a man is mentioned. And then sit it next to the one I'm doing now just so I have something to shake my head at.
